Alcoves, sloping ceilings, whole walls

Fitted wardrobes

Wardrobes built to the room rather than the catalogue: into alcoves, under eaves, around chimney breasts and across whole walls, painted or in oak, with interiors planned for what you actually own.

Floor-to-ceiling fitted wardrobes in painted off-white either side of a window seat, one door open showing oak shelving

A fitted wardrobe earns its keep in the six inches a flat-pack one wastes against a skirting board and a sloping ceiling.

We measure the room, including the bits that are not square (in a Penarth Victorian terrace that is most of them), and draw the wardrobe to the millimetre. Scribed end panels and infills close the gaps to the wall and ceiling so there is no dust shelf on top and nothing to hoover underneath. Doors are made in the workshop as frame-and-panel or flat slab, hung on soft-close concealed hinges, painted in the colour you choose or finished in oak, ash or walnut veneer.

The interior is the part that matters daily. We ask what you hang, fold, stack and hide, and plan double and long hanging, shelves, drawers, shoe racks and a tie or jewellery drawer around that. Lighting on a door sensor is a small extra that everyone who has it recommends.

A typical bedroom is measured in a visit, drawn within a week, made over three weeks and fitted in two days. We fit around your decorating: paint-grade doors can be sprayed in the workshop in your wall colour so the whole wall reads as one piece.

Questions about wardrobes

Painted or oak?

Painted for most bedrooms: it disappears into the wall and can be any colour. Oak or walnut veneer when the wardrobe is a feature. Solid oak doors are possible but heavy and expensive; we will say if they are worth it.

Can you work around a sloping ceiling?

Yes, that is the point. Eaves wardrobes with angled doors, or straight doors with a sloping top infill, both drawn to the pitch of the ceiling.

Start with a measure.

Ffion visits, measures the room and draws what will fit. The drawing comes with one price and a sample of the finish, and nothing is cut until you sign it.
