What we make
01
Wardrobes built to the room rather than the catalogue: into alcoves, under eaves, around chimney breasts and across whole walls, painted or in oak, with interiors planned for what you actually own.
From £2,900 for a 2.
02
Kitchens made in the workshop from solid timber and birch ply, painted by hand or sprayed in any colour, with oak or stone worktops, fitted by the people who made them.
From £14,500 for a bespoke painted kitchen with birch ply carcasses, solid timber doors and an oak worktop.
03
Complete staircases in oak, ash or painted softwood, replacement balustrades and handrails, and the cladding of tired softwood stairs in oak so they look and feel new.
From £5,800 for an oak straight flight with a square-spindle balustrade, made and fitted.
04
Timber box sash and casement windows made to match the originals, front doors in oak and painted hardwood, and internal doors made to the size of the opening rather than the nearest stock size.
Box sash windows from £1,650 each, double-glazed, fitted.
05
Freestanding furniture made to commission in solid oak, ash, walnut and elm: dining tables, desks, beds, sideboards and the odd thing nobody sells, designed with you and made by one maker from start to finish.
Six-seat solid oak dining tables from £2,400, desks from £1,600, beds from £1,900, sideboards from £2,200.
06
Cupboards and shelves fitted into the alcoves either side of a chimney breast, media walls with hidden cables, home office built-ins and window seats with storage, painted to match the room.
From £1,900 for one alcove with a cupboard and shelves above, painted and fitted.
The workshop
Every carcass, door, drawer, tread and sash is cut, jointed, finished and sprayed in the workshop at Penarth Marina. You can come and see your kitchen half-made, or choose the board your table will be cut from. Three of us, and nobody is subcontracted.

How we work
A measured survey, a scaled drawing and a sample of the finish before any timber is ordered. You sign the drawing; we build the drawing.
Timber, hardware, making, finishing, fitting and VAT in one figure. The only thing that changes it is a change you ask for, priced first.
Mortice and tenon, dovetails, dominoes and glue where they belong. Screws and pocket holes where they are the right thing, never as a substitute.
Solid timber swells in August and shrinks in January. Frame-and-panel, breadboard ends and floating tops let it, so nothing splits.

Reviews
Our kitchen was drawn at the table, a sample door arrived in our colour, and twelve weeks later Alun and Owen fitted exactly what was on the drawing. The oak island top is the thing everyone touches. Not cheap; worth it.
The staircase is the best thing in the house. Ffion measured the opening three times and the stair went in without a single shim. The curve on the handrail was her suggestion.
Seven sash windows in a seafront bay, in a conservation area. Oakfield copied the one original we had left, double-glazed them invisibly, and the planners were happy. The draughts have gone and the sea sounds further away.

Areas we cover
Fitted work within about forty minutes of the workshop: Penarth and the coast, all of Cardiff, the Vale of Glamorgan, Bridgend and Newport by arrangement. Freestanding furniture is delivered by the maker across South Wales and the West.
Wardrobes from £2,900 a run, alcove units from £1,900 each, kitchens from £14,500, staircases from £5,800, sash windows from £1,650 each, dining tables from £2,400. Every figure includes making, finishing, fitting and VAT. The survey is free.
Measured survey within two weeks, drawing a week after. Making: wardrobes and alcoves three to four weeks, kitchens six to eight, furniture eight to twelve, staircases four to six. We give a fitting date when you sign the drawing and keep it.
Please do. Choosing your own boards is the best part of a furniture commission, and seeing a kitchen half-made tells you more than any brochure. Saturday mornings by appointment.
Yes, where they are joinery: a door made to an odd opening, a single shelf unit, a repair to something we or someone else made. We do not hang stock doors or fit flat-pack; a good carpenter is cheaper for that and we can suggest one.
Ten years on joints, movement, hinges, runners and finish on anything we make, in writing on the invoice. Timber moves with the seasons; ours is built to, and if something does split or stick we come and sort it.
Ffion visits, measures the room and draws what will fit. The drawing comes with one price and a sample of the finish, and nothing is cut until you sign it.
