How we work

Four things that are true at every wedding we shoot.

We will not run your day

A wedding with a photographer in charge is a photoshoot. We fit round the day, keep the portraits short, and are mostly where you are not looking. Guests tend to forget we are there, which is the point.

The whole day, honestly

Every image we deliver is edited, none is filtered into a colour that was not there, and we do not remove people, rain or your uncle. Black and white where it is better; colour that looks like the day.

Dates told straight

The availability page says which dates are gone before you write to us. If your date is free, a video call that week and a £400 deposit holds it; if it is not, we will say so and suggest two photographers we would book ourselves.

The package is the price

Hours, images, travel across South Wales and the highlights set are in every package; the only extras are the album, the engagement shoot and extra hours, each priced. If the day runs late, we stay for the first dance regardless.

Availability

The diary is on the website, so you know before you write.

Most photographers' websites say "enquire for availability" and you wait three days to learn that the Saturday went in March. Ours lists every month for the next year with the Saturdays taken and the dates still open, read from the same list Rhys updates the day a deposit lands. Put your date in; it says taken or free. If it is free, the form takes two minutes and we reply within the working day with a video call that week.

  • Saturdays in June, July and August 2027 are gone; Fridays and Sundays are not
  • A £400 deposit holds the date, refundable for fourteen days
  • If we are taken, we name two photographers we would book ourselves

Venues

We know where the light goes at every barn in the Vale, and what time the tide is out.

Rosedew Farm twenty-two times, Fonmon, Llanerch, St Donat's, Oldwalls on the Gower, the registry offices and the beaches. The venues page says, for each, where we would do the portraits, where to go if it rains, and the one thing the coordinator will not tell you. If yours is not on it, we will visit before the day.

Full day

We did not want to be photographed and we have six hundred pictures we love. Anwen was there all day and we barely noticed; the ones of my dad during the speeches, and my gran laughing at the confetti, are the pictures we did not know we needed. Gallery in nineteen days. Album is on the shelf.

Two photographers

A hundred and sixty guests and two venues; Rhys with me in the morning, Anwen with Dan, and the ceremony from two sides so we have each other's faces. The two-shooter package was the right call and they told us honestly that the full day would have been fine for eighty. Nine hundred and forty images.

Elopement

Eloped on a Wednesday with eight people. Rhys met us at Bridgend registry office, then the beach at low tide, which he had checked. £750. We have better pictures than our friends who spent twenty thousand, and he knew which celebrant would do the clifftop.

Us

Two of us, married to each other, and the person you meet is the person with the camera.

Anwen came from a regional newspaper, which is where being in the right place without being noticed comes from; Rhys came from sound engineering, which is why he watches the whole room from the back. We shoot every weekend together, edit as one, and on the two-photographer package you get both mornings and both angles on everything.

  • Where. Hafod Studio is the converted cowshed beside the house on Church Lane, Llancarfan, a village in the Vale ten minutes from Cowbridge and Barry. Consultations are mostly video; the studio is for album proofs, print viewings and the people who want to meet us first.
  • Getting here. Llancarfan is off the A4226 between Barry and Cowbridge; the lane is narrow and the studio has a gravel yard with space for three cars. Cardiff is thirty minutes, Bridgend twenty-five.

Questions couples ask before they write

What does it cost?

The half day (six hours, one of us) £1,250; the full day (ten hours) £1,950; both of us for twelve hours £2,650; a weekday elopement £750; all including VAT and travel across South Wales. A £400 deposit holds the date and the balance is due a month before. Albums and extras are priced on the packages page.

Is our date free?

The availability page lists every month for the next year with the Saturdays taken, so you know before you write. If it is free, a video call that week and the deposit hold it. If it is gone, we say so and suggest two photographers we would book ourselves.

What do you mean by documentary?

We photograph the day as it happens rather than arranging it: no line-ups unless you want a few, no "do that again", twenty minutes of portraits at a good time and the rest of the day left alone. Guests forget we are there, which is where the pictures come from.

How many pictures, and when?

At least three hundred from a half day, six hundred from a full day and nine hundred with two of us, every one edited, in an online gallery within three weeks with a highlights set within a week. Full-size downloads and print rights are included; the gallery stays up for two years.

What if it rains?

We are in Wales; it rains at a third of our weddings and some of the best pictures on this website were taken in it. We carry umbrellas, know the indoor spots at every venue on the venues page, and will not let the weather take the day off you.

Check your date, then tell us about the day.

The availability page says which dates are already taken. If yours is free, the form takes two minutes, we reply within the working day, and a video call that week with a £400 deposit holds it. If it is gone, we will say so and suggest two photographers we would book ourselves.
