The team

Two vets, one night phone.

We take it in turns. If you ring at 3am, one of these two answers, and the other is asleep, with a clear conscience.

A vet at night with a head torch in a dim stable, listening to the flank of a bay horse with a stethoscope, while an owner holds the rope

The people

Siân Rhydderch, a vet in her forties with tied-back brown hair, a dark green waterproof jacket and a stethoscope, in a stable yard

Siân Rhydderch MRCVS

Vet: lameness and stud work

Siân qualified at Liverpool and spent six years at a referral hospital in Newmarket before she came home to Monmouthshire, to do horses in fields. She does most of the lameness and stud work and is the one who writes things down. She rides a retired point-to-pointer, badly by her own account. RCVS number is a placeholder on this demonstration site.

Huw Penry, a vet in his fifties with a grey beard and a brown waxed jacket over a checked shirt, standing at a stable door

Huw Penry MRCVS

Vet and founder: dentals and medicine

Huw grew up at Cefn Farm and went off to Bristol to study when the cows stopped paying. He started the practice in the old cow shed in 2004. He does most of the dentals, the older horses and the medicine, and he has taken the night phone for over twenty years. Yes, that is his real voice at 3am. RCVS number is a placeholder on this demonstration site.

Registration

Who regulates us.

Every vet practising in the UK must be on the register of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. On this demonstration site, the RCVS numbers are placeholders, and we claim no accreditation we cannot show. A real practice would print the numbers here and link to the register, so that you could check them for yourself, and you should.

Worried? Ring. Nobody here minds an unnecessary call.

A vet answers, day or night, and advice on the phone is free. For everything else, there is a round day.
