Mobile X-ray

A portable digital X-ray and ultrasound in the back of the truck, so the horse stays at home. See the images as they are taken, and have them in your inbox the same day.

Loading a lame horse to take it somewhere to see why it is lame has never seemed sensible to us.

Our X-ray unit is the size of a lunch box and runs on a battery, and the plate talks to a tablet. We can image feet, fetlocks, hocks, knees and backs on a level bit of ground with a power-free stable. You will see the pictures on the yard, and they are in your inbox the same day, for your farrier or insurer.

Radiation safety matters: only those needed stay in the controlled area, wearing lead, and everybody else goes for a walk. Handlers are over eighteen and not pregnant. We keep a record of each exposure, as the rules require.

Farrier wanting to see what the pedal bone is doing? We take foot X-rays for remedial shoeing and send them directly to your farrier, so that the two of us are working from the same picture.

Questions about mobile X-ray

Does my horse need to be sedated?

Usually not for feet and lower legs, but often for backs and stifles. We will tell you beforehand, and it is safer for everybody.

Is it as good as a hospital?

For feet and lower limbs, yes. For bigger areas like the neck and back, a hospital machine sees more, and we will tell you if that is what is needed.

Worried? Ring. Nobody here minds an unnecessary call.
