The team

Carys and Leanne, and the tent.

Carys has very fair skin, and has never used a sunbed. Leanne does most of the party nights. Between them, they mix a lot of shades.

The people

Carys Bowen

Owner and spray technician

Carys spent ten years as a beauty therapist in Cardiff before opening on Station Terrace in 2012. She has auburn hair and very fair skin and has never used a sunbed, which she regards as good evidence that she understands the question. She wrote the skin check here, and she turns people away from sunbeds most weeks.

Leanne Price

Spray and party tans

Leanne started on the front desk at nineteen, trained as a spray technician at twenty-one and now does most of the party nights. She can get the pop-up tent up in a Bargoed front room in under twenty minutes. She has a very good eye for where a shade is going to go wrong, and a very good memory for your name.

Our rules

Why a tanning shop turns people away.

Sunbeds carry real risk, and the law says that nobody under eighteen may use one. We go further: if your skin burns, we say no. A sunbed for someone with red hair is not a choice we will help with.

You should expect the same anywhere: ID, a skin check, goggles, and a timer. If a salon offers you a sunbed and does none of those things, walk out.

The skin check

Not sure which? Four questions, ten seconds.

The skin check tells you honestly whether a sunbed is right for your skin. A spray always is, and it has no UV in it at all.
