Skin check

Should you have a sunbed at all?

Four questions and your age. If you burn, or you are under eighteen, the answer is a spray, and we mean it. This is a guide, and we repeat it in person.

Your skin

What this tells you

Your skin type, roughly, on the scale dermatologists use. Whether we would let you use a sunbed. And whether a spray is an option, which, from sixteen, it nearly always is.

It stores nothing. If you are worried about a mole, see your GP, not a tanning shop.

About the skin check

What is this based on?

A simplified version of the Fitzpatrick scale, which is what dermatologists use to describe how skin reacts to the sun. It is a guide for choosing a tan, and it is not a medical assessment.

Can I just tell you what type I am?

Tell us what happens to you in the sun. Most people think they are darker than they are.

What about moles?

A lot of moles, a mole that has changed, or a family history of melanoma means no sunbed from us. See your GP about any mole that changes. A spray tan is fine, but tell us about it.

A spray has no UV in it at all.

Ten minutes in the tent, mixed to your skin, and five to ten days of colour. Time it to your event.
