A gradual tan, without the tent

Tanning lotions and at-home tan

A gradual tan for the shower or bedside, a mousse for the keen and a good mitt. No UV, and no need for an appointment.

Plain tubes of tanning lotion and a soft mitt on a warm bronze linen cloth with sprigs of dried grass

Between sprays, or instead of them, a gradual tan is the most forgiving way to add colour, and it costs about the same as two sessions.

Gradual tan is a moisturiser with a small amount of DHA. Use it daily for three or four days until you have the colour you want, and then twice a week. Wash your hands after, or use a mitt. It is very hard to get wrong.

Mousse is stronger, with a guide colour so you can see where you have been. It takes a bit of practice. Apply it with a mitt in long strokes, keep knees and elbows light and let it dry before you dress.

We do not stock UV accelerators or any lotions that are made to intensify a sunbed. They do not make a tan safer, and they tend to make people stay on for longer than they should.

Questions about lotions

Can I use them on my face?

Gradual tan, yes, a small amount. Mousse is better kept away from the face, because it can sit in pores.

Do they contain SPF?

No, and a tan you get from one does not protect you either.

Not sure which? Four questions, ten seconds.

The skin check tells you honestly whether a sunbed is right for your skin. A spray always is, and it has no UV in it at all.
