The season

In season in September.

Twenty-four crops on one calendar, the months they are good and where ours come from. The shop follows it; the veg boxes are built from it. Pick a month to look ahead or back.

Rhubarb, purple sprouting broccoli, new potatoes with soil, wild garlic and a trug of rainbow chard on a hessian sack on a slate wall

12 of the 24 are good in September.

Questions about the season

Why is something on the shelf that is not in season?

Because we sell imports too, labelled with the country: lemons, bananas, oranges, and tomatoes in February. The calendar is for the Welsh and British crop. When the Welsh one is in, it replaces the import.

Can the box be all local?

Not every week of the year; February and March are the hungry gap and there is not enough. From June to November a box is mostly Welsh and the slip says where each thing came from.

How do you decide the months?

From what our growers actually pick, not from a book. A cold spring moves asparagus a fortnight; the calendar is updated when it does.

This week's box, with the day the van reaches your street.

Small £15, medium £21 or large £28, this month's veg, two swaps if you want them, and the next round for your area worked out before you order. Free delivery around the Llynfi valley. No subscription; pay on the doorstep.
