Nia and Tomos
Nia opened Driftwood in 2015 in the townhouse her grandmother lived in, after ten years in a hotel spa; Tomos joined in 2019 from a gym in Cwmbran and works the Thursday lates. Both qualified, both insured, both happy to say when a massage is not the answer.
Owner and therapist. Swedish, aromatherapy, pregnancy massage
Twenty years of massage, the first ten in a hotel spa in Cardiff Bay and the last ten here, which she opened in 2015 in the townhouse her grandmother lived in. A Level 4 massage qualification, a pregnancy massage certificate and an aromatherapy diploma, and membership of a professional massage body with its insurance and code of conduct. Does all the pregnancy massages and most of the aromatherapy.
Therapist. Deep tissue, hot stone, the Thursday lates
A Level 3 diploma in massage and a Level 4 in soft tissue therapy, joined in 2019 after five years as a gym instructor in Cwmbran. The one to book for deep tissue and hot stone, and the therapist on the Thursday late shift, which he chose because it is when people who work shifts can come. Will tell you plainly when something needs a physio.
The paperwork
Nia: Level 4 massage, a pregnancy massage certificate and an aromatherapy diploma. Tomos: a Level 3 massage diploma and Level 4 soft tissue therapy. Certificates in the hall.
Both carry treatment and public liability insurance through a professional massage body, with its code of conduct. A live site would name it here.
Every first visit starts with them, and every visit with a quick check. Some answers change the massage; a few mean your GP first.
Warm towels throughout, only the area being worked on uncovered, underwear on, and a stop that is honoured at once.
The house
Number 41 was Nia's grandmother's house for fifty years. The ground-floor room was her front parlour and is the one we use for anyone who would rather not climb; the first floor has the second room and the relaxation corner; the couples room is in the attic, with the sloping ceiling and the window over the hill.
