Slow, firm and specific work on the places that hold tension; sixty minutes £62, ninety £88
Deep tissue massage
Slow, firm, specific massage for the muscles that hold on: shoulders that live up near the ears, a lower back that locks, hips that ache after a day in the car. Forearms and elbows, never fast and never something you have to brace against. Sixty minutes £62, ninety £88.

Deep tissue massage uses slow, sustained pressure to reach the deeper layers of muscle. It is not a harder Swedish massage; it is slower and more specific, and the depth is something we build towards, not start with.
We start by asking where it hurts, what you do all day, and how firm you like it. Then the area is warmed with broader strokes before the deeper work begins, with forearms, elbows and thumbs moving slowly along and across the muscle. The pressure should feel strong and satisfying, sometimes a "good hurt", never sharp, and never something you hold your breath against: a braced muscle does not let go.
Sixty minutes usually means two areas properly, such as the neck and shoulders and the lower back, rather than the whole body in a hurry. Ninety minutes allows a full body with time for the stubborn places.
Expect to feel worked the next day, a bit like after a good walk, and drink water. If you have an injury, a recent operation or pain that is getting worse, a physio or your GP should see it first; we will say so rather than massage over it.

Questions about deep tissue
Will it hurt?
It should feel strong, sometimes intense, but never sharp. Tell us and we ease off; we would rather go slower than have you tense up.
Will I be sore after?
A little tender for a day is common after deep work, like after exercise. Water, a walk and a warm bath help.
