Sunday
The roast Sunday 25 October, by the sitting.
Five sittings from half past twelve, twenty-four covers each, and this page says how many are left in each one so you can see before you ring whether the one o'clock has gone. Beef from Brecon cooked pink, pork with crackling, a nut roast that meat-eaters order, Yorkshires the size of a hat, gravy in a jug you can hold.

The sittings
52 covers left across the five sittings Sunday 25 October.
Twenty-four covers a sitting, twenty in the last. Booked tables are held for fifteen minutes; walk-ins take what is left.

The counts are updated by Nia as bookings come in and are usually within a cover or two of the diary; a sitting showing one or two left may have gone by the time you ring, and we will say so and offer the next one. For nine or more, ring: we join tables across a sitting.
The menu
£18 for the roast, £24 with a starter or a pudding, £29 with both.
Under-twelves £9 for a smaller roast, or a half portion of anything at half price. The nut roast is vegan on request with the potatoes and gravy done in oil; the Yorkshire is not. Gluten-free gravy and no Yorkshire if you ask when you book. Cauliflower cheese for the table £4.
How Sunday works
Four things about the roast.
Why sittings
Thirty-six covers and a hundred and twenty roasts means the room turns three times. Sittings mean your table is ready when you arrive and the kitchen sends the beef out pink rather than resting for an hour.
The beef
A rib of Brecon beef, dry-aged twenty-eight days, roasted at seven and rested; carved pink and sent back to the oven only if you ask. The pork is a loin with crackling that is actually crackling. The nut roast is Gwen's and not a brick.
Children and grandparents
A smaller roast for under-twelves at £9, high chairs, crayons, and a table near the door for the pushchair. The 12:30 sitting is the family one; the 3:30 is the quiet one with the walkers back from the mountain.
After the roast
The kitchen stops at four; the bar does cold beef sandwiches and the leftover pudding until eight. The fire is lit, the papers are on the bar, and nobody minds if you stay until the last sitting has gone home.
Questions about the roast
Do I have to book the roast?
For the one o'clock and half past one, yes, usually by Thursday. The roast page shows what is left in each sitting; if your sitting shows covers, ring or use the form and it is yours.
Is there a vegan option?
The nut roast is vegan on request (the gravy and the potatoes are done in oil for it), and there is always a vegan main on the weekday card. Say so when you book and the kitchen is ready for it.
A room with the rate on the page, a roast with the covers left, a bar with the village in it.
The rooms page works tonight's rate out from the clock, the roast page shows what is left in each sitting, and one form books either, a table, the barn or Christmas. Nia replies within the hour while the bar is open; nothing is charged until we confirm.
