Getting here, parking, access and hours
The inn
The Harp Inn, Crickhowell Road, Llangattock NP8 1PH: the long whitewashed stone building with the green doors on the canal side of the village, where the Crickhowell road meets the lane to the mountain, two hundred metres from the church. The bar is through the front door; the boot room and the rooms through the yard at the side.
Getting here
From the A40 at Crickhowell, over the river bridge and left at the T-junction into Llangattock; the inn is three hundred metres on the right. From the A465 Heads of the Valleys, leave at Gilwern and follow the canal road for ten minutes. The X43 bus between Abergavenny and Brecon stops at Crickhowell, a fifteen-minute walk over the bridge; the nearest station is Abergavenny, six miles, and a taxi is about £15.
Parking
Twenty spaces in the yard, free, including two by the Hayloft stair for the family room and a wide one by the Canal room door. The barn car park at the back takes forty more for a wedding. Canal boats can moor on the towpath below the garden for a night; bikes in the stone store.
Access
The bar and the restaurant are step-free from the yard door; the front door has one worn step. The Canal room is on the ground floor with a level shower; every other room is up a seventeenth-century stair with a rope rail and uneven treads, and we say so. An accessible toilet off the bar. The barn is level throughout.
Dogs, children and boots
Dogs in the bar, the garden, the Canal room and the Hayloft; not in the restaurant at the roast. Children everywhere, half portions, two high chairs, a cot and a Z-bed on request, and the garden to the canal (fenced from the water). Boots stay on in the bar; the boot room has the rack and the hose for anything worse.
Hours
The bar Monday to Thursday noon to 11pm, Friday and Saturday noon to midnight, Sunday noon to 10:30pm. Food noon to 2:30pm and 6pm to 9pm; the Sunday roast in sittings from 12:30pm to 3:30pm. Breakfast from 8am. Christmas Day the bar opens noon to four for the lunch and closes for the evening; every other day of the year we are open.
Standing outside a pub in Llangattock with no green doors? There are two others; ours is the one on the canal. Ring 01873 496 0570 and someone will wave from the yard.
A room with the rate on the page, a roast with the covers left, a bar with the village in it.
The rooms page works tonight's rate out from the clock, the roast page shows what is left in each sitting, and one form books either, a table, the barn or Christmas. Nia replies within the hour while the bar is open; nothing is charged until we confirm.
