Warning lights read and, more to the point, understood

Diagnostics

A warning light on the dash, a car in limp mode, a misfire or a rattle. Ffion plugs in the dealer-level tool, reads the codes and the live data, road-tests it and finds the cause, not just the code. £55, deducted if we do the repair.

A diagnostic reader plugged into a car's OBD port under the dashboard, its cable running to a rugged laptop on the driver's seat

A fault code is a clue, not an answer. A code for a lean mixture can be a split hose, a dirty sensor, a leaking injector or a fuel pump on its way out, and the cheap code readers sold for £20 cannot tell you which. Ffion uses a dealer-level tool that reads every module in the car, shows live data while the engine runs, and can run the tests the manufacturer's own tool runs.

So the visit is the codes, then the live data, then a road test with the laptop on the passenger seat, then the physical check: the hose, the connector, the sensor. You get a written answer with the cause, what it will cost to fix, and whether it is safe to drive in the meantime. If we do the repair, the £55 comes off it.

We also do the jobs that need the tool and nothing else: service lights reset, electronic handbrakes put into service mode, new keys and batteries coded, diesel particulate filters regenerated where the car allows a forced regeneration, and adaptations after a part is changed.

What is included

  • A dealer-level tool that reads every module
  • Live data and a road test, not just codes
  • A written cause, price and safety verdict
  • The fee deducted from the repair
  • DPF regenerations where the car allows
  • Hybrid systems, with Ffion's hybrid qualification

What it costs

Diagnostics £55, up to an hour, deducted from the repair if we do it. Including VAT. The job pricer works it out for your size of car, and the area checker gives the call-out for your postcode.

Questions about diagnostics

Can I drive with the engine light on?

If it is steady and the car drives normally, usually for a few days. If it is flashing, or the car is in limp mode, stop and ring us.

Do you work on electric cars?

Hybrids, yes, with Ffion. Fully electric cars we service (brakes, suspension, cabin filters) but do not touch the high-voltage system.

Book a slot. We bring the garage.

Pick a time, tell us the car and the job, and Dai or Ffion turns up with the van. Fixed labour, the parts at what they cost us plus our margin on the receipt, and twelve months on everything.
