What we bake

What we bake, and what it costs.

The counter changes with the day and the season but this is most of it, with the price. Bread from seven, pastries in rounds until eleven, the bakestone from half past seven, lunch from eleven. When it is gone it is gone.

Allergens are on the card by the till and on every wholesale invoice: everything contains wheat; the pastries, buns and Welsh cakes contain dairy and egg; the almond croissant and carrot cake contain nuts, and nuts are in the bakery every day. The vegan cinnamon bun and the vegan chocolate cake are made with oat butter. Half loaves on request; sliced on request; order by 3pm the day before to have it put aside.

The basket by the door

Nothing is sold a day old, so day-old bread is £2.

We bake to sell out and most days we nearly do. What is left at three goes to the community fridge on Cathedral Road; what is left at closing the day before goes in the basket by the door at £2 a loaf until it is gone, usually by nine. It makes the best toast of the week and the best bread-and-butter pudding, and we would rather you had it than the bin did.
