Sundays at half past ten
Veterans
Over-35s, on Sunday mornings, with a generous view of what counts as a tackle. Friendlies, the odd tournament and a very long debrief.

The veterans play on Sundays at half past ten, usually on the back pitch, against other sides of men who ought to know better. Some have played for the club all their lives, and some took it up at forty-eight because their doctor said to do something.
It is friendly in the sense that nobody wants to go to A&E, and competitive in the sense that everybody remembers the score for a decade. Rolling subs, no offside on bad days, and a bacon roll afterwards.
If you are thirty-five or over, turn up at ten on Sunday with boots and shin pads. We will find you a shirt, and very probably a nickname. If you have a heart condition, please talk to your GP first, as our physio is a retired plumber.
What is involved
- A game most Sundays from September to May
- Shirts provided, and washed by Ceri
- Rolling subs for everybody
- A bacon roll after the game
- The summer tournament that nobody has ever won fairly
What it costs
£4 a game. Bring your own knee support. Read the rest on the prices table. The fixtures show when we are next at home.
Questions about veterans
I have not played in fifteen years.
You will fit in, and you will not walk properly on Monday.
Are there any over-50s games?
A couple each season, against sides who agree not to mention it.
Five pounds, a hot tea and a bit of shouting.
Saturday, Glan Taf Ground, a five-minute walk from Taffs Well station. Under-16s free with an adult. The clubhouse is open after the game, and you do not need to know anybody.
