The way in

Reserves

Saturday afternoons away when the firsts are at home, and at home when they are away. Young lads coming through and old ones hanging on.

A small muddy football match in heavy rain far off below a huge grey hillside

The reserves are for anybody good enough to enjoy a proper game, at any age from sixteen. Some are eighteen and on their way up, and some are thirty-eight and on their way down. The two groups keep each other honest, mostly by shouting.

We play in the valleys reserve division, generally on the back pitch next door when the first team is away, or on the road when they are home. The pitch is not always pretty. It was not when you were a boy either.

If you have come through youth football and are not sure about men's, this is the place to find out. Mark Jenkins runs the side, and you can train with the firsts on Tuesdays regardless. Nobody has to wait until somebody retires.

What is involved

  • A game most Saturdays, September to April
  • Training with the first team on Tuesdays
  • Kit washed by the club, boots your own
  • A pathway to the first team when you are ready
  • Tea, and a lift to away games

What it costs

Subs £6 a game, £15 a year registration. Watching is free. Read the rest on the prices table. The fixtures show when we are next at home.

Questions about reserves

How good do I need to be?

Good enough to enjoy a proper game. Come and train on a Tuesday and Mark will tell you.

How old can I be?

From 16. There is no upper limit, but the veterans would like a word.

Five pounds, a hot tea and a bit of shouting.

Saturday, Glan Taf Ground, a five-minute walk from Taffs Well station. Under-16s free with an adult. The clubhouse is open after the game, and you do not need to know anybody.
