NHS flu and COVID jabs, shingles, private flu for the rest
Flu jabs and vaccinations
NHS flu and COVID vaccinations from September for everyone eligible, no appointment on most days, and the shingles, pneumonia and whooping cough jabs for those entitled. Not eligible on the NHS? A private flu jab is £18. Given in the consultation room by a trained pharmacist.

Every autumn about two thousand people in Caerphilly have their flu jab here instead of at the surgery, because it takes five minutes and they were passing. If you are over sixty-five, pregnant, a carer, or have a long-term condition, it is free; if you are none of those and want one anyway, it is £18.
NHS flu vaccination runs from September to March for the over-sixty-fives, people with long-term conditions such as asthma, diabetes and heart disease, pregnant women, carers, care home staff and frontline health workers. The COVID autumn booster runs alongside it for the same groups and the two can be given together. Walk in on weekdays; Saturdays are booked because the queue gets long. Both pharmacists are trained and the consultation room has a chair that goes back.
The shingles vaccine is free from the NHS at sixty-five and seventy, and for over-fifties with a weakened immune system; the pneumonia jab at sixty-five; whooping cough in every pregnancy. We check your eligibility at the counter. For anyone who does not qualify, a private flu jab is £18, no questions, and a private shingles course can be quoted.

Questions about vaccinations
Do I need to book?
Not on weekdays from September; walk in and you will usually be done in ten minutes. Saturdays are booked, by phone or the form, because the queue gets long.
Can I have the flu and COVID jabs together?
Yes, one in each arm, on the same visit, if you are eligible for both. Most people have a slightly sore arm for a day and nothing else.
Order a prescription, or book a service.
Repeat prescriptions ordered on the prescriptions page are ready in two working days, collected or delivered free. Flu jabs, travel vaccines, blood pressure checks and medicines reviews are booked with the form or by ringing the shop.
