Prices

Most of it is free. Here is the rest.

In Wales the NHS pays for prescriptions, the common ailments service, the vaccinations you qualify for, blood pressure checks and medicines reviews. What is left is a short list, priced here by the dose so nobody is surprised at the counter.

Wales

Why so much is free here and not across the bridge.

Wales abolished prescription charges in 2007 and funds its community pharmacies to do the things that keep people out of the GP surgery: the Common Ailments Service, the blood pressure checks, the medicines reviews, the emergency contraception, the flu jabs. We are paid by the NHS for each of them, which is why there is no charge at the counter and no catch. Where the NHS stops, mostly travel and the things the NHS has never covered, we price by the dose and write it down first.

  • NHS prescriptions free since 2007
  • The pharmacy paid by the NHS for the services, not by you
  • Private prices on this page, never a surprise at the till
