With the family, for as long as it takes

Palliative and end-of-life care

Comfort, dignity and company at the end of life, with our nurses, the GP and the community palliative team. Your family can stay, overnight if they wish.

Most people would rather not spend their last days in hospital, and for most people who live with us, they do not have to. We ask early about what you want, and we write it down and we stick to it.

Our nurses are trained in end-of-life care and work with your GP, the district nurses and the community palliative team. Advance care plans are talked through gently, and well before they are needed. Families can stay in the room, day and night, with a recliner chair and meals brought in. Your chaplain, minister or priest is welcome at any time.

Afterwards, we do not hurry. Nobody needs to clear a room the same day, and we will help you with what to do next. Staff often come to the funeral, on their own time. They do not have to, and many do.

What is included

  • Nurses trained in end-of-life care, day and night
  • Work with the palliative team and GP
  • A place for family to stay
  • Help with fast-track NHS funding
  • Time and support afterwards

What it costs

Palliative care is covered by the nursing fee. Fast-track NHS funding is often available: we will help you with the paperwork. The fees page works out a total and explains who pays what. Fees are reviewed each April, with three months' notice in writing.

Questions about palliative care

Can someone come here from hospital for this?

Yes. Ask the hospital's discharge team to ring us, or ring us yourself, and we will come to assess the same or next day where we can.

Will they be in pain?

We work hard to keep people comfortable, and we can get specialist advice from the palliative team, day or night.

Come and see us. Any day.

No appointment. Ring the bell at any reasonable hour, and someone will show you round and put the kettle on. If you want to talk about money or care plans with Menna, ring first so that she is free.
