Privacy policy.

What we collect, why, who sees it and how long we keep it.

What we collect

When you enquire, book the workshop, ask for a valuation, buy or sell a car or apply for finance, we collect what you give us: name, contact details, vehicle registration and mileage, and the details of the transaction. For finance applications we collect what the lender needs: date of birth, address history, employment and income. We record the IP address a form was sent from to deal with spam.

This website sets no cookies of its own and runs no analytics or advertising scripts. The map on the contact page is loaded from Google when you scroll to it and is subject to Google's privacy policy.

Why we use it

  • To reply to you, value your car, book and carry out work, and complete a sale or purchase (our contract with you, or the steps you ask us to take before one).
  • To pass a finance application to lenders on our panel, with your consent, so they can make a decision.
  • To keep records of vehicles bought and sold and work done, for our warranty, the DVLA, HMRC and our insurers (legal obligation).
  • To remind you when a service or MOT is due, if you have asked us to.

We do not send marketing you have not asked for and we never sell your details.

Who sees it

The three of us and our two technicians, our accountant, the finance lenders you apply to, the DVLA for vehicle transfers, warranty and history-check providers, and our email and booking software providers, which store data in the UK or EU.

How long we keep it

Enquiries that go nowhere are deleted after twelve months. Vehicle sale, purchase and workshop records are kept for six years after the transaction, which covers warranty claims and HMRC. Finance application data we hold only until the lender has decided; the lender then holds it under their own policy.

Your rights

You can ask to see what we hold, have it corrected or deleted, or object to how we use it, by emailing sales@valleymotorcompany.co.uk. We reply within a month. If you are unhappy with our answer you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
