About us

Twenty-one years on the same estate.

Two cars and a rented unit in 2004. Three bays, a showroom and about sixty cars in stock today. The method has not changed: buy carefully, inspect everything, tell the truth about it.

How we buy

Dean buys every car himself, mostly from main dealer part-exchanges and private sellers within an hour of Caerphilly, and occasionally from auction when he has seen the car in the metal. Anything with a mileage discrepancy, an insurance category, outstanding finance we cannot settle or a history that does not add up goes straight back. About one car in four fails that first look.

How we prepare

Every car then goes on the ramp for Lewis's 120-point inspection, which is the same sheet we give you. Tyres under 3mm are replaced, not "advised". If a service is due within three months it is done. Brakes, bulbs, wipers and anything on the sheet are fixed before the price goes on. The valet is last, because a shiny car with a tired clutch is not a car we want our name on.

What we will not do

  • Charge an admin fee, a "preparation fee" or any other number that appears after you have agreed a price.
  • Sell a car we would not put a family member in.
  • Pretend a warranty claim is a wear-and-tear item to avoid paying it.
  • Clear a warning light and call it fixed.

The people

Three of us you will actually deal with.

Dean Harris

Owner and sales

Dean started as an apprentice technician in Cardiff in 1996 and opened Valley Motor Company in 2004 with two cars and a rented unit. He still buys every car on the forecourt himself and will tell you which ones he would not buy.

Siân Lloyd

Sales and finance

Siân handles part-exchange valuations, finance applications and the paperwork, and is the reason the showroom runs on time. She has been here since 2012 and knows most customers by name.

Lewis Price

Workshop manager

Lewis runs the workshop with two technicians. Master-tech trained on VW Group and Ford, and the one who inspects every car before it is allowed on sale. If he says no, it goes back to auction.
