The rules
Four rules on the wall.
Three rungs up
You can challenge anyone up to three places above you. Win and you take their place; everyone between moves down one.
Ten days to play
The person you challenged must offer a time within ten days. If they cannot, you take their place.
No instant rematch
You cannot challenge your last opponent again for seven days, so you have to find someone else.
Best of five
Standard scoring to eleven, and you write the result on the wall yourself. Honesty has held since 1974.
Questions about the ladder
How do I get on the ladder?
Join, and tell Samina. You go on the bottom and start challenging from there.
What if someone is away?
They are marked as away and cannot be challenged until they come back. Tell us when you are going away, and tell us when you are back.
What if someone keeps avoiding me?
Ten days without a time offered and you take their place. Samina decides anything else, and her decision is not open to appeal.
Do I need to be good?
No. The ladder sorts that out: you will end up where you belong, among people who play like you do.
First game is on us. Bring shoes that do not mark.
Ring or send a line and someone from the club will give you a game at about your level, lend you a racket and tell you honestly what you are doing wrong.
