Getting here, and the pool rules

The pool

Llanishen Leisure Centre, Ty Glas Avenue, Cardiff CF14 5DX: a 25-metre main pool and a separate teaching pool at 30°C. We hire the teaching pool and two lanes of the main pool for our lessons; the centre runs public swimming alongside. Come in through the main entrance and tell reception you are with Splash.

Getting here

Buses 21 and 23 stop on Ty Glas Avenue outside the centre; Ty Glas station is a four-minute walk. From the M4 at junction 32 follow the A470 and then signs for Llanishen. Bike racks by the main entrance.

Parking

Free parking for two hours at the leisure centre, which is busiest between 4pm and 6pm on weekdays and on Saturday mornings; allow ten minutes. Overflow parking on Ty Glas Avenue, not on the residential streets behind.

Changing and watching

Group changing for children with a parent; family cubicles, accessible changing and baby-changing in the poolside village. Parents watch from the viewing gallery above the main pool, which has a window onto the teaching pool and a café counter.

Access

The centre is step-free throughout with a pool hoist, an accessible changing room with a bench and a ceiling track, and a quiet room on request. Three of our teachers hold the disability swimming qualification; ring us to talk through what would help.

Safety and safeguarding

A centre lifeguard on the poolside for every lesson, as well as the teacher; every teacher holds an enhanced DBS check, a pool lifeguard or rescue award and first aid; Gemma is our safeguarding lead. Photography is not allowed on the poolside or in the gallery.

Running late? Ring 029 2018 0640; the teacher will start without you and the swimmer can join when they arrive.

Find the stage, then book a place. Pay only for the lessons left.

Tell us the swimmer's age and what they can do now, and we offer a class at the right stage with a space, usually within the week. The first ten minutes are an assessment and the teacher moves them that day if the stage is wrong. Or ring Carys in the office.
