Sports injuries

Hamstrings, knees, Achilles, shoulders, ankles. Diagnosed properly, treated hands-on, and rehabilitated with a loading plan and a return-to-sport date rather than rest and hope.

Rest fixes almost nothing except a fracture. Sports injuries get better by finding what is overloaded and why, calming it down, and loading it back on a schedule you can see.

Tom leads the sports side: runners from the Taff Trail and the Bay, cyclists, rugby and football players, and the gym injuries that come from lifting with a shoulder or a back that was already stiff. The assessment looks at the chain, not the sore bit: a runner's knee is often a hip that does not control it, an Achilles is often a calf that has lost its strength.

Treatment combines manual therapy and soft tissue work to settle things, taping where it helps, and a graded loading programme in the clinic gym with a return-to-sport date. Our gait analysis uses a treadmill and video to find the one thing in your running that is costing you, with a report you can take to a coach or a shoe shop.

Questions about sports

Can I keep training?

Usually in a modified form: shorter, flatter, lighter, or a different session. Complete rest is right for very few injuries and we will tell you if yours is one. An injury rehabilitated while you keep moving settles faster and you lose less fitness.
