The Friday night classic

Sweet and sour

Chicken balls in a crisp batter, Hong Kong style with the sauce tossed through, pork, king prawn balls and vegetables, with a sauce made here every day.

Sweet and sour chicken balls in crisp batter next to a tub of red sweet and sour sauce with pineapple and peppers

Our sweet and sour sauce is made every afternoon from pineapple, vinegar, tomato and sugar, not poured from a catering tub, and it is not that alarming shade of red.

There are two ways to have it. Chicken balls (number 86) come with the sauce on the side so the batter stays crisp. Hong Kong style (number 88) is strips of chicken in a lighter batter, tossed in the wok with the sauce, pineapple, peppers and onion.

Sweet and sour vegetables are cooked in the vegetable wok, and a large tub of the sauce is £2.80 if you want extra for the chips.
