Tablets, drops, insulin, special diets, the slow ones
Medication and elderly pets
Visits for the pets that need more than a bowl: tablets hidden or given by hand, eye and ear drops, insulin by injection, prescription diets weighed out, a sling walk for the arthritic dog, and a note that records every dose. The visit price, plus £4 for an injection.

An old cat on three tablets, a diabetic dog on twelve-hourly insulin, a rabbit on a syringe-feed after dental work: these are the visits where it matters who turns up. All three of us have given insulin and all three have pilled a cat that did not want it.
At the first visit you show us the medication and we do a dose with you watching, write the schedule on the registration form, and photograph the labels. Every dose is recorded on the note with the time. Insulin is drawn up as the vet taught you, given at the time you give it, and if an animal has not eaten we ring you before we inject, not after. Tablets are hidden in whatever works or given by hand; drops are drops.
Elderly animals get the visit at their pace: a sling or a towel for the dog whose back legs have gone, a litter tray moved nearer, water bowls in three rooms, a longer sit. If something is wrong you get a call, and if it is serious we take them to your vet with your permission, which we ask for on the form in advance so there is no delay on the day.

Questions about medication
Can you give my diabetic cat her insulin?
Yes, twice a day at her times, £4 a visit on top of the cat visit. We will not inject a cat that has not eaten; we ring you first.
What happens if my pet is taken ill while I am away?
We ring you, then your vet. If you cannot be reached and it cannot wait, we take them in under the permission you gave on the registration form and pay the vet on your behalf, to be settled when you are home.
