Bring your horse: flatwork, jumping and problem-solving in the arena or covered school, £40 for 45 minutes
Own-horse lessons
Lessons on your own horse with one of our BHS coaches: flatwork, gridwork and courses, a horse that naps or rushes, or getting a young horse going. Bring your horse in the trailer or hack over from a nearby yard. £40 for 45 minutes, the arena included.

Most riders with their own horse have a problem they have been living with for a year: the canter lead that will not come, the stop at the second fence, the horse that is perfect at home and a lunatic anywhere else. Forty-five minutes with a coach is usually where it starts to end.
Own-horse lessons are with Elin or Rhys, both BHS accredited coaches, in the outdoor arena or the covered school. Bring your horse in a trailer or a lorry; there is turning space and a ramp area on the hard standing by the barn, and a stable to tie up to while you tack up. Riders on nearby yards often hack over on the bridleway from Llancarfan, which is twenty minutes at a walk.
Flatwork is the most common booking: straightness, contact, transitions and the work that makes everything else easier. Jumping lessons use the full set of poles and wings, gridwork for rhythm and technique, and a course of ten fences when you are ready. We also see a lot of young horses and horses who have had a long break, and a lot of horses who have learned a habit their rider would like them to unlearn.
Your horse must be vaccinated against equine flu, with the passport to show it on the first visit, and shod or in boots suited to a sand surface. If your horse has a cough or a temperature, please do not bring it. We charge for lessons cancelled with less than twenty-four hours' notice unless the weather or the vet is the reason.

Questions about own-horse lessons
What does my horse need?
Up-to-date flu vaccinations with the passport, shoes or boots for sand, and good health on the day. A horse with a cough, a temperature or a strangles contact stays at home.
Can I just hire the arena?
Yes, at £15 an hour when no lesson is booked, for liveries and riders who have had a lesson with us. Book by text so two people do not turn up at once.
Do you come to my yard?
Not usually. Rhys travels for a group of three or more riders on one yard within ten miles, at £40 a rider for 45 minutes.
Find the lesson, then book the first one.
Tell us the rider's age and what they can do now and we suggest the lesson and the next day with a place. Every new rider starts with a private lesson so we can choose the right horse. Or ring Sian in the office.
