Riding

Six ways onto a horse, each priced.

From a four-year-old on the lead rein to an owner with a horse that stops at the second fence, and the livery yard and the farm tracks in between. Each page says who it is for, how big the group is, who teaches it and what it costs.

Hacking on the farm

Hacks on four miles of our own farm tracks and field headlands, with views across the Vale to the Bristol Channel, and no road to cross. An hour at walk and trot for riders who can steer and stop, or two hours with canters up the long field for experienced riders. From £50.

£50 for an hour at walk and trot; £85 for two hours with canters, experienced riders only.

Starting

The first lesson, in four steps.

  1. Find the lesson

Two questions on the lesson finder (the rider's age and what they can do now) give the lesson, its length and price, and the next day with a place.

  2. Book it

The form takes two minutes. Sian confirms within the working day with a time, an instructor and a horse, and asks the rider's height and weight privately.

  3. A private lesson first

Every new rider has one private lesson so the instructor can see how they sit and choose the right horse. Then they join a group, or carry on privately.

  4. The same day each week

The same instructor, the same horse until it is time for a change, and progress on the yard board. Nobody waits for a term to end to move up.

Once you can trot

Four miles of farm tracks, and no road at all.

Along the stream, through the wood and up the long field to the top gate, with Flat Holm and the Somerset coast on a clear day. An hour at walk and trot for riders who can steer and stop on their own; two hours with canters for experienced riders.

Find the lesson, then book the first one.

Tell us the rider's age and what they can do now and we suggest the lesson and the next day with a place. Every new rider starts with a private lesson so we can choose the right horse. Or ring Sian in the office.
