Lesson finder

Find the lesson, then the day.

Two questions: how old the rider is, and what they can do on a horse today. The finder suggests the lesson, its length and price, the weight limit for the horses, and the next day with a place. The first lesson checks the answer.

Hats and boots

Six rules at the mounting block, and the reason for each.

Checked every lesson, for every rider, including the instructors. We lend a hat free for your first three lessons and body protectors whenever they are needed.

  1. A hat to the current standard

PAS 015 (2011 or later), VG1 01.040 2014-12, ASTM F1163 (2015 or later) or Snell E2016, with the label inside and no knocks. We lend one free for your first three lessons. A hat that has had a fall is replaced, not kept.

  2. Boots with a heel

Riding boots or jodhpur boots with a smooth sole and a small heel, so the foot cannot slip through the stirrup. No trainers, wellies, walking boots with deep treads or anything with laces that catch.

  3. A body protector when it matters

To BETA 2018 Level 3, for every rider under fourteen in every lesson and for everyone jumping or cantering on a hack. We lend them in every size.

  4. Long trousers and gloves

Jodhpurs, riding tights or stretchy leggings, without big seams on the inside of the knee. Gloves stop the reins rubbing and keep a grip in the rain.

  5. Nothing that dangles

Long hair tied back under the hat, no hoops or dangling earrings, no scarves, and phones in a zipped pocket or left in the car.

  6. Layers, not one big coat

A fitted jacket or fleece that does not flap. The arena is colder than the car park in winter and warmer in summer. Hi-vis tabards are lent for hacks.

Tell us the rider's age and what they can do now and we suggest the lesson and the next day with a place. Every new rider starts with a private lesson so we can choose the right horse. Or ring Sian in the office.
