Getting here, and the yard rules
The farm
Cefn Hir Farm, Llancarfan, Vale of Glamorgan CF62 3AD: up the lane from the village past the church, a mile and a quarter, on the left at the white gate with the horseshoe sign. The yard is the second entrance; the first is the farmhouse.
By car
From the A48 at Bonvilston take the Llancarfan road south, through the village and up the hill. Sat-nav sends people down a green lane with no turning space; follow the signs from the church instead. About 25 minutes from Cardiff, 15 from Barry.
Parking
Park on the hard standing by the barn, nose in, and leave the yard gate as you found it. Trailers and lorries on the turning area by the arena. Please do not park on the verge or in front of the hay barn.
On foot and by bus
The 304 from Barry stops in Llancarfan village twice a day; it is then a steep twenty-minute walk up the lane. The bridleway from the village to the farm is open to walkers and riders.
Facilities
A toilet and a hand basin in the yard, a kettle and a fridge in the tack room, a covered viewing bench by the arena, and a picnic table by the barn. The covered school has a gallery for parents in the winter.
Rules of the yard
Walk, never run, near horses. Dogs stay in the car. Shut every gate behind you. Ask before you feed any horse anything. Children on the yard are supervised by a parent unless they are in a lesson or on a pony day.
Lost in the lanes? Ring 01446 496 0985 or Dai on 07700 900 985; the instructor will start the lesson on time and the rider can join when they arrive.
Find the lesson, then book the first one.
Tell us the rider's age and what they can do now and we suggest the lesson and the next day with a place. Every new rider starts with a private lesson so we can choose the right horse. Or ring Sian in the office.
