Five teams, one training night each

Under 12s to under 16s

Five teams in the valleys girls' league, one training night a week and a game on Sunday mornings. Beginners still welcome at 14.

A girls' age group football match seen from far across a park pitch in low evening sun, one team in plain purple and the other in plain white

From under 12s up, girls play in a real league on Sunday mornings, with a team, a shirt number and a coach who knows them. We still take complete beginners at every age, and we mean it.

A girl who starts at thirteen is not behind in the way she fears. She will be slower with the ball for a term or so, and she will be quicker to listen than anybody who has played since she was five. Coaches put new starters in with a friend, and give them a job on the pitch they can do from the first week.

Age groups run from a cut-off of 31 August, so your child's school year is usually a good guide. Under 12s and 13s play nine-a-side, and under 14s upward play eleven-a-side. Under 14s and above are not a selection: nobody is cut from the squad for being new, and nobody sits out a whole game.

Sunday games kick off between 10am and 11:30am, half of them at Caerau Park and half a short car share away. We organise lifts between parents, not coaches, and we post every game on the club group the Wednesday before.

Questions about under 12s to 16s

She is 14 and has never played. Too late?

No. Ring us and come on her team's night. The first three sessions are free and she can bring a friend.

Does she have to play on Sundays?

No. Plenty of girls train and only play when they can. Just tell the coach by Thursday.

What happens after under 16s?

We help her find a women's team nearby and stay in touch, and many of our older girls come back to help with Wildcats, which counts towards their volunteering awards.

Never played? Good. Bring her on Thursday.

Trainers and a coat are fine for the first session. A coach meets you at the pavilion gate, and you can stay and watch for as long as you like. The first three sessions are free.
