Star 01
Wildcats, ages 5 to 11
An hour of games with a ball, every Thursday at five. No positions, no league table, and no need to have played before.
Three sessions free, then £12 a month.
Girls football · Caerau Park, Ely
Most girls here hadn't either. Come to three sessions for nothing, in trainers and a coat. Ages 5 to 16, whoever she is and however she kicks.

How it starts
Turn up ten minutes early and find a coach in a purple coat by the pavilion gate. Stay and watch. Trainers will do. She can hold your hand for the whole hour if she needs to.
She knows a name or two by now. Bring a friend if she wants: every girl gets her own three free sessions, so there is nothing to work out.
Decide together. If she is staying, a short form and £12 a month by standing order from then on. If not, no hard feelings and nothing owed.

For the grown-ups
Every coach and helper holds an enhanced DBS check and has taken the safeguarding course, there are always two adults at a session, and our welfare officer, Marian Ellis, answers her phone on anything at all.
We don't publish names or close-up photographs of girls anywhere, and we never will. If money is tight, tell us quietly and the club fund covers subs and kit.
Everything parents askThe rules we live by
Every girl gets game time in every match until under 14s, written into our club rules. At under 14s and above, nobody sits out a whole game.
Stay and watch, or stand on the line with a flask. There is a chair by the pavilion if you want one.
Two adults at every session, no coach alone with a child, no lifts in coaches' cars. We say it plainly because it matters.
We praise trying, and being a good team-mate, well above scoring. Nobody gets shouted at from our touchline.

Nobody here is paid
Goals, tea, lines, lifts, the books. You don't need to know anything about football, and the club pays for any check or course a job needs. If you fancy coaching, we pay for the badge too, in return for one season.
From the touchline
She stood behind me for the whole of the first session. By the third she had forgotten I was there. She is nine, and she now tells me about offside whether I want to hear it or not.
I told them she was thirteen and had never played, expecting to be fobbed off. Lowri said, good, bring her Wednesday. She plays at the back now.
I got told about the fund on the quiet when things were tight last winter. Nobody else ever knew. That is why my girl still plays.
Yes. It is the most common way anyone starts with us. The first session is games with a ball, a coach alongside her and no one keeping score. Trainers and a coat are fine.
Trainers or boots, a water bottle and a coat. Long hair tied up and earrings out. We have balls, bibs and spare shin pads.
Every coach and helper has an enhanced DBS check and a safeguarding course, there are always two adults at a session, and our welfare officer, Marian Ellis, is on the phone for anything at all. Parents can stay and watch every session, always.
Age groups go by her age on 31 August at the start of the season. Put her date of birth in the team finder and it will tell you the group, the coach, the night and the kit cost.
Tell Marian or the coach. The club fund covers subs and kit quietly, with no form, and nobody else hears about it.
No. Wildcats do not have a league at all, and older girls can train without playing on Sundays. Most end up wanting to, but nobody is pushed.
Trainers and a coat are fine for the first session. A coach meets you at the pavilion gate, and you can stay and watch for as long as you like. The first three sessions are free.
