Huw Davies
Owner and MOT tester
Huw opened Taff MOT in 2010 after fifteen years as a tester and workshop manager at a main dealer. He still does most of the tests himself, and he will show you the problem on the ramp rather than describe it.

About us
The tester never sells the repair. That rule has been on the wall since the day we opened in 2010, and it is the reason a third of our customers come from more than ten miles away.
An MOT station that also does repairs has an obvious temptation: fail a car, fix the car. Most do not give in to it, but you cannot tell from the car park. So we separate the two. The tester tests to the DVSA manual and writes the sheet. If you want a quote, the sheet goes to the workshop bay and a different person prices it, and you are free to take that sheet anywhere. Our pass rate is above the national average because we do not invent failures, and our workshop is busy because people come back.
A four-post lift, brake rollers set into the floor, a headlamp beam aligner on rails, a gas analyser and a diesel smoke meter, all calibrated on the DVSA schedule and the certificates on the reception wall. The viewing window is there on purpose: you are welcome to watch every minute.

MOT tester and diagnostics
Ffion qualified as a tester in 2017 and runs the diagnostics side: the engine lights, the ABS faults and the airbag warnings that are an automatic fail. Trained on hybrid and electric systems.

Reception and bookings
Owen runs the desk, the diary and the reminder list. If you have had a text the week your MOT is due, that was him. He also makes the coffee, which gets its own mentions in the reviews.
Pick a day and an hour slot online, or ring the desk. Car MOT £45, free retest, and you can watch it from the window.
