Fish and chips at home on a Friday: the fish, the batter, the chips, the peas and the tartare, boxed to cook in twenty minutes
Friday fish-and-chips boxes
A box for two, four or six, ordered by Thursday 6pm and collected on Friday between four and seven: skinless haddock or cod fillets from that morning's landing, our batter mix, chips cut from Pembrokeshire potatoes and par-cooked, mushy peas, tartare made here, a lemon, and a card that gets it on the table in twenty minutes. The order page takes it.

The Friday box started in 2020 when the chip shops shut and it never stopped, because fish and chips cooked at home from fish landed that morning is better than most chip shops and about half the price. You get everything except the oil and the twenty minutes; the card tells you the order to do it in and the temperature of the pan.
In the box: two fillets a head of skinless, pin-boned haddock or cod from Friday's landing, cut to about a hundred and eighty grams; our batter mix, which is flour, cornflour, baking powder and salt in a bag, to which you add a bottle of cold lager or sparkling water; chips cut thick from Pembrokeshire Maris Pipers, blanched here so they take eight minutes in the pan; mushy peas made from marrowfats soaked overnight; tartare sauce made in the shop with capers and gherkins; a lemon; and the card. Swap the haddock for cod, hake, pollock or plaice when you order, at no charge; gluten-free batter on request. A box for six also gets a tub of curry sauce, because someone always wants it.
Order by six on Thursday on the order page, by phone or at the counter, and say the box and the fish. Collect on Friday between four and seven, or have it delivered within five miles on Friday afternoon for £4, free over £50. The fish is filleted on Friday morning, so the box is never made the night before. A box with a bottle of the Welsh lager from the brewery in Llantwit is £3 more and a popular mistake to leave out.

Questions about friday boxes
What if I miss the Thursday cut-off?
Ring on Friday morning; if there is haddock to spare we will make one up, and there usually is until about eleven. We cannot promise it, which is why the cut-off exists.
Can I have it on a Saturday?
Yes, as a Saturday box ordered by Friday 6pm, collected Saturday from nine. The chips are blanched on Friday for both.
