I went in with a recipe for lamb on my phone and £20. Hywel gave me a choice of three, told me why, and did not make me feel stupid about any of it. We went back the next week for the Rhône.

I asked Anwen to write me a case for £150 that was not all Malbec. Each bottle came with a little handwritten note. We ate better all month because of it, just so we could use the notes.
Fourteen strangers at a table in a cellar, by the third wine we were all arguing cheerfully about Riesling. It is the most fun you can have on a Friday in Monmouth with your coat on.
Sale or return was what sold us. We ordered nineteen cases, opened fourteen, and took five back on the Monday with no fuss. Glasses were free, and only two got broken.
Great wine, and Hywel carried it all the way in. Four stars because they could only do Tuesday or Friday, and I work both days, so it took a couple of attempts. They did not charge for the second go.
I told them my dad liked Spain and old Westerns, and they laughed and found him a Priorat. Lovely brown paper and a handwritten tag. He is still talking about it.
About the four stars
Sophie works Tuesdays and Fridays.
So do plenty of people. We still can only run the van on two days, because there are two of us. What we have added is a Saturday collection from the shop, a neighbour who is an adult if you tell us beforehand, and an early evening slot on Fridays by arrangement.
Enjoyed a bottle? Tell the next person.
Or tell us. We like to know what you liked, and we will find you something like it.
