I describe a person and Ceridwen hands me the book. It has worked eleven times. The wrapping in brown paper and string is the nicest thing on Glebe Street and it is free.

Ordered an obscure history book at ten past three on a Tuesday; text at nine the next morning saying it was in. Same price as online, and I got a conversation about it at the counter.
Three years in the fiction club and I have read things I would never have picked up and argued with people I now count as friends. Free, with wine from the café and Ceridwen refereeing.
The only café in Penarth where you can sit for two hours with a book you have not bought and nobody looks at you. The lemon drizzle is a public service. No wifi, which I needed.
Storytime is the highlight of our Thursday and Ffion is a genius with the under-fives. Four stars because the upstairs is reached by a steep staircase and with a buggy and a toddler it is a two-person job; they help, every week, and they are honest that the building is listed and they cannot change it.
Thirty-five chairs between the shelves and an author two metres away. I have been to a dozen; the poets' evening in the spring was the best night out I had all year, and it cost six pounds I got back on the book.
About the four stars
The staircase is listed and steep, and Nia is right about it.
We cannot alter the stairs; the building is listed and we have asked twice. What we have changed since Nia\'s review: storytime moves downstairs to the café, with the tables pushed back, for anyone who asks on the day; there is a buggy park by the front door with a bell to the upstairs; and any book on the children\'s floor can be brought down in a minute. It is not a lift. We are honest that it is not a lift.
