Getting here, access and hours

The shop

17 Glebe Street, Penarth CF64 1EE: the teal front with the bay window, between the deli and the florist, two minutes from the station and three from the Esplanade. Two floors; the café at the back of the ground floor.

Getting here

Penarth station is a two-minute walk; buses 92, 93 and 94 stop on Windsor Road. Parking on Glebe Street is an hour free with a disc; the Windsor Road car park is two hours free. A bike rack outside and the Esplanade cycle route five minutes away.

Access

The ground floor, with the café, fiction, crime, poetry and the Welsh wall, is step-free from the street through the main door. The children's floor and non-fiction are up a steep listed staircase we cannot alter; ask and we bring anything down, and storytime moves downstairs for anyone who needs it.

Dogs, prams, children

Dogs are welcome on the ground floor and in the café with a bowl by the door. Prams fit through the door and between the ground-floor shelves; the staircase is the problem and we will carry. Children are welcome everywhere and the window seat is theirs.

Hours

Monday to Saturday 9am to 6pm, Sunday 10am to 4pm; the café closes an hour before the shop. Open again at 6:30pm on Thursdays for events. Closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day; open every other day of the year.

Orders and the phone

Order at the counter, by phone, by email or on the order page; we text when it is in and hold it a fortnight. The phone is answered in shop hours by whoever is nearest, usually with a book in the other hand.
