Getting here, and the house rules

The house

22 Merthyr Road, Whitchurch, Cardiff CF14 1DJ: the double-fronted Edwardian house with the green door and the green picket fence, on the village side of the Plough crossroads, next to the dentist and opposite the end of Park Road. The office is the first door on the left; the rooms are through the stable doors.

Getting here

Buses 23, 24 and 25 stop at the library a minute away; Whitchurch and Coryton stations are an eight-minute walk. From the A470 come off at the Coryton interchange and follow Merthyr Road into the village. Cyclists use the rack inside the gate, and the Taff Trail is five minutes away.

Parking and drop-off

Twenty-minute drop-off bays outside the gate from 7:30 to 9:30 and 4 to 6, marked by the council for the nursery and the dentist; please do not stop on the zigzags by the crossing. Free short-stay parking on Park Road and behind the library for longer visits. Pushchairs park under the porch.

Visits

Tuesday to Thursday, 9:30 to 11am or 2 to 3:30pm, by appointment with Bethan: forty minutes round every room while it is running, the garden, the kitchen and the fees. Children are welcome on the visit. Book on the website or ring; weekend visits by arrangement for parents who cannot get away in the week.

Access

The ground floor, with Acorns, Saplings, the kitchen, the parents' room and an accessible toilet, is step-free from the drop-off bay through the side gate. Oaks is upstairs; a child with a mobility need is placed with their age group in a ground-floor room with the Oaks curriculum. Tell us what you need and we will show you how it works.

Safeguarding and inspection

Registered with Care Inspectorate Wales for 48 children; the last inspection report is in the hall and on the CIW website. Every member of staff has an enhanced DBS check and paediatric first aid, Bethan is the designated safeguarding lead, and nobody collects a child without the password and a name on the collection list.

Running late for pick-up? Ring 029 2018 0610 before six; we keep them with a book and a snack, and the late fee is £10 for every fifteen minutes.

Come and see it running. Tuesday to Thursday, forty minutes, bring the child.

Tell us your child's age and the days you are thinking of, and we reply within the working day with a time to walk round every room while it is open, the garden, the kitchen and the fees. No pressure and nothing to sign; the waiting list is free to join afterwards. Or ring Bethan.
